Today’s dreamers are tomorrow’s achievers

I have this poster in my room that has this quote. We all have different dreams as to how we want our lives to turn out, and in most cases it never turns out the way in which we want it to, but it’s not how you start, but how you finish.
Dreams and visions play a huge role in the idea of how you want you life to turn out, and we must be the ones to live out our dreams and not for others to live out ours.
It is okay for people to disagree with your dream, but at the end of the day, it’s your dream, so other people shouldn’t matter.
Let’s dream so we can live.

Trends

When summer does decide to grace Cape Town with its presence, women should invest on making their toe nails pretty.
It is an ancient Egyptian trend that used to symbolise social order. Red for higher ranked and pale colours for lower ranked females.
Whether it is that you go for a pedicure or use nail varnish, your toe nails need to be looking proper when you wear gladiators or sandals. This means that your nail polish shouldn’t be chipped if you are going to be wearing nail polish.
Colour is always good trend for the summer, but not your pearly colours. Blues, purples and pinks have become in and also shocking colours.
It is always a good thing to make a statement when sporting a new nail colour, so women should do that for summer.

Magazines

Lately, when buying magazines and publications has become a difficult task and a waste of money. It is a waste of money because after purchasing the magazine you will find that there is nothing interesting to get out of all those glossy pages.
The magazines just contain fashion spreads and not enough balance between the two of fashion and news worthy articles. Target markets are then blurred and the content may not appeal to everyone who may like the publication.
The way i see it, sex and fashion sells magazines and all the other content is just there to fill up the magazine, because most people just page through the magazine for one day and it ends up lying there and all you do is collect more and more and more.
There needs to be a balance of the content in a magazine.

Opportunities

It is true when they say ‘when one door closes, another opens’ I feel that this is happening in my life. I’m now done with school (I hope), I haven’t entered the field of Public Relations and I am super keen to get into it.
I have made that decision to start fresh and to quit my current job and relocate to Joburg. It is a decision that I have been toying with in my mind for the longest time, and decided to take the leap of faith and to go.
Yes, I stress about how things will be like when I get there as I would have to get used to the way of life there, but I have a great support structure in Joburg.

Missing all the fun

South Africa had the opportunity to see many international artists coming to our shores and having a concert in the big cities. One of those acts was Coldplay.
I am very bleak that I missed out on that concert, because i got there too late to get tickets, and then only to find out that everyone I know was going to be there. A friend of mine even went as far as bbming me the whole time before the concert on the atmosphere in the stadium.
Still heartbroken about not being able to go the concert, but I’ll live. I still will jam to the albums i have of theirs, as that is the next best thing.

Summer not

So its November, exam time, the preparation for the December holidays in full swing, but the only thing that’s missing is Cape Town’s good summer weather. It is actually the weirdest thing ever because it has been raining, miserable and just not enough sun.
Joburg people are having the complete opposite; they are having heat waves, where their summers have summer rain.
This is definitely a sign of global warming, because the weather patterns have gone crazy.
It was even hailing the other day in November... I didn’t even see any hail during the winter months!
Maybe the weather will co operate once I’m done with school... then its summer vibes all the way. Can’t wait.

Ipad vibes

As the world becomes more technologically bound, and the need to make life more convenient through technology, the creation of new products are done so at a rapid rate.
I had a chance to play with the ipad the other day... it was an interesting experience. I’m not really into these gadgets and what not, but having a chance to play with the ipad tablet, made me sold on the idea to get one.
Its small and it doesn’t weigh that much, it also operates on a touch screen. This may be nice in the beginning, but I’m not a huge fan of touch screens.
Overall the ipad is a great toy, and I’m sure the rest of the applications that come with it are number one.
I’m considering getting one after fiddling with it for a day.

Of all the forms of courage, the ability to laugh is the most relaxing

Nothing beats a good laugh when your day has been full of drama, and things just fail to go right. Laughing is the best way to doctor a situation, in that things don’t look to bad after a good laugh.
Laughing is contagious and is such a natural high, because when you laugh, you become calm and relax, and aren’t so cut up about a situation that may have occurred.
Getting together with friends after a hectic week at work, and just meeting up for some laughs, to forget about the week and stress at work, and whatever else is happening in life is the best thing ever.
Laughing is the easiest way to escape and go to another world, so go on and laugh on.

The statute of limitations has expired on most of our childhood trauma

We often hear that people are what they are because of their circumstance. Although this may be true, we can’t as people blame everything that goes wrong in our lives because of the circumstances and the curve balls that life throws at us.
It is up to you to take responsibility of your own life and live your life according to the way that you want it to be. Yes, it may be difficult if you come from a background that is of difficulty, to find your feet and to try making a success of life, but it up to you.
There are so many success stories, about similar situations, where people persevered through all the tough times, to live the life that they want to live and to live it best.
Perseverance is the tool that you need to getting over what happened in the past, to build a new future.

Be bold and mighty forces will come to your aid

The dictionary gives the meaning of bold as ‘courageous and daring’
Most times, being daring and courageous can be interpreted wrong as being a person who takes chances without thinking about the consequences that may come with making such decisions, but generally being bold is a good thing.
This quote from Basil King, basically says that we should be courageous and so that we are able to reap the rewards for being courageous. This can be said for students. Not many people want to study, but when you take the step to study, it will open so many doors.
Take a risk in life, and that will work to your advantage.

The last lecture

Well, the road to getting this PR degree has been one of the craziest years ever. Let alone if you’re doing five subjects in one year. It has been quite emotional, and it has been worth it.
Starting with the fact that I was sure of the fact that I wanted to study further, and decided the day before registration that i am going to study, I’ve learnt a lot, meant so many people who i still plan on keeping in touch with and reconnect.
In the duration of the year, we al were saying that we couldn’t wait to finish and be done with school, but now that it is over it is bitter sweet.
The last lecture will be on the 14th of November, and some goodbyes will be said. It is bitter sweet as I’ve just mentioned, but will be worth it when looking back at the road travelled with this degree.

Watch this space

This statement is such a cliché, but is really true in that it creates excitement and makes the person anticipate the follow up of what is going to happen when following what was said.
Things that usually happen when ‘watch this space’ is said are usually positive things, which makes one to believe that this statement is a positive one in that it brings self confidence to the person that is saying it.
It is up to us to make things happen for ourselves, so people should continue to watch this space

Do you think crying is a sign of weakness or strength

We have a lot to say when we see people cry, we automatically assume that they are weak because they are showing the world how they are feeling at that point in time, and they can’t control their emotions.
When I was going through my timeline on Twitter, one of the people I’m following tweeted something to the effect of, “we shouldn’t see crying as a sign of weakness, but as strength because when we are born we cry”
Crying is just another way of stating how you feel because in most cases, the words that we’re trying to say can’t be said which then makes the tears flow.
I don’t see it as a weakness because to me it’s another form of emotional release

My favorite cat in the hat book is The Cat in the Hat comes back because…

Lol, personally I really can’t remember much about the Cat in the Hat series of books, maybe it was because I never gave it much time of day. Probably because I always wanted to play outside, and also because I didn’t always like reading.
What I do remember vaguely from the cat in the Hat was my time in primary school, and the books were still there when I went to aftercare from school.
If I could remember a book from the series is “The Cat in the Hat comes back” where he creates a crisis in a pink bathtub ring and leaves a pink residue after he snacks on a cake in the bath with the water running. Attempts to clean it up fail which causes havoc.
Other than that, the series is still relevant for young kids and I would recommend that the kids of today read these books

Family

There is a saying  ‘blood is thicker than water’ although cliché, is but true.
I was fortunate enough to spend time with family that I don’t often see and don’t get the time to spend with this weekend.
I have family that came down to Cape Town from Vereeniging and that was a major treat to spend time with them, I also got the chance to see my nephew, who is now four, and the last time I saw him, he was still an infant.
It was also great to see my grandmother, which I don’t make enough time to see, and spend time with, and listen to all her stories.
There really isn’t much that I can say about the matter, but the fact that we should appreciate and treasure each moment we spend with those who we love, because, we never know if that will be the last time that we spend with them.

Why I have conversations.

Whether we realize or not, but we as people have conversations every day, all day. Some of us never take note that the voices and the thoughts that go on in our heads are conversations.
It’s quite difficult to have a conversation with ourselves because, we may not get the answers that we seek, but in fact, sometimes looking within ourselves is just what we need in order to gain perspectives and to know what we need to do.
People need people, and having conversations is a need that people have to have. Human interaction is an imperative for people to grow and to realize the ways of the worlds.
There’s one movie that I can think of when a man is the only survivor in a plane crash, and then he becomes stuck on an island. The biggest challenge that the man struggles with is the fact that he has no one to talk to, and resorts to drawing a face on a ball that he found from the place crash wreckage and begins to talk to this ball and interacts with this ball as if it’s a human. Obviously the ball doesn’t answer back.
I feel if we don’t have conversations with ourselves and with people, we won’t be complete as people.

Do we really change?

As soon as people find themselves in relationships, it often easy for them to change and lose themselves and forget who they were before they were in a relationship.
It may be unfair to say that we shouldn’t change who we are when we are in a relationship, but I do believe that depending on the nature of the relationship, that will determine if the person is more likely to change.
I’ve seen this happening quite often and I personally am not a fan of changing overnight just because one finds themselves in a relationship.
With anything that happens in our lives, we should be happy with who we are first, before we are able to invite someone in our space and in our life, because, that person may or not be there forever, but we will be stuck with ourselves at the end of the day

Summer trends

So summer is slowly setting in…. well maybe not in Cape Town as of yet,  but because of the line of work that I am in, I can’t help but take note of all the things that are said to be in for the spring/summer season of ’11.
The most obvious trend that one can notice is colour. Bold colour is in and with colour, comes patters. The pattern that is a must have is stripes… if I can actually call it a pattern, but yeah.
Bold stripes, they look amazing and a must have for all women is a pair of espadrille wedges, if you’re not into wedges, then maybe pumps for you. But one cannot go on this season without a pair of espadrilles.
As the season goes on, it will be more interesting to see the other trends coming in. apparently the nautical theme is in again, but I will definitely have my eye to see what’s going be in.

My big fat BIG dream

When we grow up, we often think and have dreams as to how our life is going to plan out. Most people often dream about having that sports car, earning lots and lots of money, marrying the perfect partner and just having it all in terms of what society says is the dream.

The things that i dream of for myself, it's firstly a collective of dreams that all comes together to form one dream.

Apart from the things I have mentioned above that people usually dream about, I would really love to travel across the world. I feel that firstly I need to explore the things that are in my own country before going to other countries, and then travel across Africa.

Thats one of my biggest dreams. Apart from wanting to travel so badly, I feel that I need to do this before I settle down and relax with my life. The biggest thing would also be to happy with myself before trying to please other people.

explanations

I really get annoyed when people don't understand and expect you to explain to them your reason of doing things.

Personally i believe there is only a handful of people we owe explanations to. That could be your parents, you significant other or even your sibling, but not some random that you only know from around and not that familiar to them.

People should know that we do things that feel right to us at that point in time, and if it doesn't affect the next person, then they really have no business to be asking what was going on.

Some people should just learn to mind their own business and do what they need to do and not do what will make the public happy, and not have to explain themselves to people who are not of great significance in their lives.
I am gona sound like the biggest groupie, for even blogging about this, but when i woke up this morning, the first thing that i do is check my phone, for my Twitter timeline to see what i missed when I was asleep.

To my surprise, the news that struck me the most, was the news of Beyonce and Jay Z confirmed that they are expecting a baby! That is such a contrast of news, because over the passed few months they have been rumoured to be in the process of a divorce.

Then again, you can't exactly believe what you hear in hollywood, but i think that's just great, maybe not for Beyonce, but for Jay Z... He is'nt getting any younger.

People have been waiting for this to happen, and finally it is. All the best with Beyonce's pregnancy

conventional is a good fallback position isn't it?

Conventional is conforming to the standards accepted by people.I feel like we as people do end up sticking to the norm and hardly take the chance to try new things.

Taking a leap of faith and trying out new things is easier said than done, but it should be all about the things that we as people want to achieve ant the end of the day. If we want to achieve great things, we need to get out of the box and do things that are not so convential, and if it doesnt work out, we could always go back to being convential.

The thing is, it is a fallback position, but we don't necessarily have to go through our lives that way. We could take the risk and try new things. It may end up working to our advantage.

you cant chase two rabbits at the same time.

So the saying says that you can't chase towo rabbits at the same time....

Well, that depends on who you are and what you are going to be doing with those rabbits. We usually believe that we should follow through with one thing at a time, rather than doing everything all at the same time.

This may be true, but it all depends on who you are and what you are trying to achieve, because i believe that you can chase two rabbits at the same time, it just depends on how you choose to chase them.

Once we become strategic in the way we are going to be tackling things, then we are able to know where our strengths are and how we will aim for the prize

reality check

It's sad to see your life passing you by and only realising very late that you didnt do much with your life, and that you wasted so much valuable and precious time that you can't get back.

I think that we tend to feel that way when you are in such a comfort zone where become so used to whatever the situation is, it could be a job that isn't good, and not allowing growth for you as a person, but you stick around because you are stuck in this place and it is too difficult to get yourself out of it.

At the end of the day, the strength should come from within to pick yourself out and change your mindset in order to see yourself living the life that you've always wanted, because no one will do something for you if you can'y help yourself.

'nothing is more dangerous than an idea, when you only have one idea' Alain

This is very true.

i feel that we as people dont really give much thought into what we doing and the things that we are trying to do, we only live for the now, and sadly not thinking ahead.

This can be seen when starting up your own business, whatever it may be. The idea may be great, and may work out in the beginning. What we sometimes don't want to consider in life is that something may work for now, but may not continue to work for a long time. What then do we do when something fails and there is no back up plan?

We should really get our ducks in a row, before we execute plan A, and that plan B will be used if plan A didn't work out.

Have you figured out the second head fake?

This was a lecture that was given by Professor Randy Pausch in 2007. This lecture is about people achieving their childhood dreams, and at the time of the lecture, he was diagnosed with six months to live.
If I were to quote Randy Pausch, “it’s not about how to achieve your dreams. It’s about how to lead your life. If you lead your life the right way, the karma will take care of itself. The dreams will come to you”
I fully agree with this statement as I am a big believer in karma, because the manner, in which you go about things, whether good or bad, will come back to you in the same way, maybe even twice as much.
We need to understand as people in the world, that it’s good and well to want to achieve success and all that, but we must go about it in a good way or else we won’t be as blessed as we should be.

My mom

How cliché it is for people to be talking and celebrating their mothers, and I will do the same this time.
On a serious note, I don’t think I would be able to express all the things that my mother has done for me all my life and is still continuing to do for me.
My mother has been the most instrumental figure in my life, and I doubt I would ever be able to be twice the woman that she is, although I can try.
My mother has always been the rock, playing both the mother and father role in my life from the time I was one, after my father passed to both my brother and I.
I guess it is also fitting to be celebrating the number one woman in my life, because the month of August is known to be the Women’s month, but it also my mother’s birthday on the 4th of August.
I will just end off by wishing my mom a happy birthday for the 4th, happy womens day in advance, and a ‘thank you’ for being there. My mother is BOSS!

How hard is it to follow instructions?

Because people are different and interpret things differently in their minds, i think that it is quite difficult to follow instructions.
They probably end up doing what makes sense in their mind, instead of asking questions if they seem to be confused in what they have been told to do.
They do say that there is no such thing as a stupid question, but let’s be real, it’s better to look stupid for 2minutes for asking the obvious, than to go ahead with something that you’re not sure about, and possibly ruining the whole task that is asked of you.
Most of the time the confusion in following instructions is when the person who is actually giving the instructions doesn’t know them self, what they’re doing.
It sucks living in a world of confusion, so people should know what they’re doing, if they don’t, they best be asking.

Fitting in

It really sucks when you are the new person at work...

Te worst is when your new colleagues are not friendly and are tippy-toeing around you, trying to see whether you are either shy, talkative or just a nice person.

At work, there have been a few people who have joined the team, and  I'm that person that doesn"t really talk much and have to suss you out before I decide how I feel about you. Usually this takes about three days to get used to someone and to know how they work and all. Sometimes I dont keep track of the days, because you'll find that maybe that new person was a breath of fresh air  bringing fresh ideas.

You do get those people who are normally welcoming and friendly and all, but i don't thik I'm one of those, but we all will be the new person when we find new jobs, we should the person that we want to be if the roles were reversed.

Andy Warhol said, "in the future everybody will be world famous for fifteen minutes." You cant choose the 15 minutes but why would you be famous

To a degree, this has a lot of truth to it. The reason that I believe that it is of truth, is that with the technology that is around us, with people being able to have their own websites, their own blogs, and twitter accounts and of course Facebook, it is much easy to keep a track record of someone.

More importantly it is easier to know what that person is doing when they express what they are feeling. This makes me think about recently in South Africa, where Nonhle Thema who is one of South Africa's stars went on a dissing spree on twitter. She went on about how much she earns from endorsements, and how much she is worth, and so forth. This made her famous for about a week. She generally was one of the stars who never had bad publicity, but with this, it got people talking and made her more famous.

They say that there"s no such thing as bad publicity, but do we as people want to be famous for the wrong things? Whatever it may be, if we do get our 15 minutes of fame, it should be well deserved.

nerd glasses

I have always hated the fact that i have worn glasses for more than half of my life and so when the chance came to wear contact lenses, i jumped at it, but i was so scared of them in the beginning.
Contact lenses do make life easier and so forth, except when you have to take them out and put them in.
There was a time where it was seen that wearing glasses was so uncool and so nerd like that people who did at the time were not paid much attention. Amazing to see how fashion and trend setters made it fashionable to wear glasses again.
This trend was seen with the classic Ray Ban frame the wayferers. When these were put in the spotlight, everyone wanted to wear glasses even though they didn’t have an eye problem.
Before this i was always ashamed of the fact that i wear glasses, and having worn contacts for the past 3 years, i still sometimes feel that way, now that ive been wearing my glasses for the past 3 months.

Mandela day

So recently it was Nelson Mandel’s birthday which was on the 18th of July. And now Nelson Mandel’s birthday is now a day called Mandela day. In this day a person should dedicate 67 minutes of their time to do something good for people who are less fortunate than they are.
It is 67 minutes because, Nelson Mandela has spent 67 years of his life fighting for the rights of Black South Africans, and so that South Africa can be the country that it is today, a non racial society.
Sadly i didn’t do anything for the call, but i do know people whe fed people at soup kitchens, cooked for senior citizens and others.
This is a great initiative, because we can and will always remember Nelson Mandela for fighting for other people and helping others, and so we should do the same.

Oprah show ended

I was super bleak when the time came when Oprah show was actually coming to an end, because when you have a woman like Oprah, and following her life and the things that she has done not only for the people in the USA, but all over the world, and having watching her everyday at 5h30pm every weekday, one cant help but feel empty.
I think there are too many things that one can say about Oprah, but her last thre shows were the best send off, and i don’t think there could have been a better way yo say goodbye to a show like that.
Although it was emotional for some.. .it was great to see how many lives she has touched in 25 years of her having the platform of the show to do her philanthropic work, she will be known and go down in history as one of the most influential people in history.;

There must be something wrong with me

I have always maintained that i have a concentration problem and people laugh when i tell them that because they refuse to believe me.
Whenever people suggest going to the movies i always exclude myself because of that and people find it strange. My mind tends to wonder when im at the movies, and i would say that it is the same thing when i attempt to read a book... i, lose concentration very soo and never get far in reading the book.
I don’t think i suffer from ADD or anything like that, its just that i get bored very easily, and when i get bored, i cant hide it.
I don’t know how to overcome this and i doubt that i will ever, but hey, maybe its what makes me different from others.

30 seconds

The best thing to get over winter is to stay indoors and play 30 seconds with a group of friends. This has been my jam of note this winter time, as partying in winter sucks!!!
Its like the best game ever invented but you should make sure you have a team that is fast and knows their general knowledge because 30 seconds is the most amount of time.
The pattern thus far has been to play 30 seconds every weekend, and we’ve missed one wkend without playing and people felt  weird.
I guess, as friends there should always be like a games night, no matter what games are played because it does exercise the mind but also in a fun way

A song

Amazing how a song can sum you up in a few minutes. Whatever you might be going through in you life at that point in time.
I have a friend and we love the music that Erykah Badu makes, but theres this one song that gets us both in the lyrics, the beat and the length of the song. The song is like 10mins long and its called ‘out my mind. Just in time’
Judging from the title one would expect it to be about a man... yes it is and it is about a girl trying to get over her man, or rather ex-man in order for her to gain sanity.
My friend just came out of a relationship and that song is so fitting and is about her situation, it was like it was written for her.
I guess, music is therapy

Shoes

Man,  i think ive just realised that im a shoe person....
Lately I’ve been seeing some hot shoes out there, but the problem that i find is that although i love the shoes, i buy them,  but i won’t wear them. Lol, how bizarre is that.
If there is any shoe that s speaking to me, and would buy a pair almost every day is a good pair of wedges. I’m not a high heel person, so i find that wedges are the great option because to can walk in them for long and still feel you feet by the end of the night.
Brogues are super nice at the moment also. It just is so amazing to see how fashion keeps coming back with the styles of shoes mentioned above.
Pumps will always be number one on my list, but the tomboy in me will always love and appreciate a good pair of sneakers...
I’ll end off by saying that i bought four pairs of shoes in ne week. A wedge, a brogue, a pair of heels(lol) and a pump... i love shoes.

Losing

We always hear the saying that life is too short to take for granted, but i don’t think that we really take this to heart as people.
Sadly that is what happened to me over the passed few days, having ending my holiday from school on a low note.
My step father passed away, after a battle with cancer a few weeks ago. Although the relationship between him and my mother wasn’t that great, it did really suck when i heard of his passing.
I think i feel and felt as though because he was estranged with my mom, we lost contact and hardly spoke as a result. Much regret on my side about how this unfolded.
Alas, it is too late as there is nothing that can be done about the situation, but it is very true that lifes too short to waste one day.

Rock journalism is people who can’t write interviewing people who can’t talk for people who can’t read

So when having read this i was super confused as to what this means, so trusting my good friend Google, to find out what this means, i was surprised.
So when going through this search engine and clicking on the sites found, the most of them refer to reporting on music. All aspects of the music industry, whether it be the artist, the genre and the music that the artist or bands are making.
As rock is not my favourite music genre, there are a few bands that are famous in this genre. I think the band at the moment, that may have caught my attention is Kings of Leon.
Although rock is one of the biggest music genres out there, personally, there isn’t much that i associate with it in my life. Although, like i said there will always be that one thing that will make you like something about something, and that is how i feel about Kings of Leon and Rock.

Feelings follow behaviour

I don’t know whether this statement is true or not, but having given it some thought, i think that it does have some truth to it.
The first thing that comes to mind when having given this statement true is when it comes to matters of the heart( In most cases, and obviously not all.)
The example that I can think of is when you meet a guy that you may know, and nothing as of yet has happened between the two of you, and then suddenly you begin with the little things of texting, and phone calls. After phone calls you begin to spend more time together, and before you know it, you develop feelings for this person, and it was all because of that behaviour of texting, phone calls and spending time together (maybe too much time together) and thus the feelings.
That is my initial thought when having thought about feelings following behaviour, and do believe that it is true.

It is better to practice a little than talk a lot

We have all heard of the saying practice makes perfect, of which is so true, as you don’t want to become that person that just comments and has something to say about anything and everything and everything, only to find out that you don’t have any experience in whatever the topic of discussion may be.
Taking that in our personal lives, I feel that us people should learn to exercise is the art of listening before talking. As people, we are quick to pass comments, without listening and hearing the facts first, then understanding what is going on to comment.
I know that I have found myself doing this sadly, but I can say that it is not something that happens often.
Using this example of practising to listen before talking, does confirm that it is better to practice a little than talk a lot.

Cape Town Fashion Week

So we all know that the three biggest cities in the country have a week (rather a weekend) dedicated to show case all of what South Africa has to offer in terms of fashion.
Cape Town had their chance on the weekend of the 14th -16th of July.
Most of the biggest names in SA fashion that partaken in was david Tlale, Fabiani, Cosmopolitan to mention a few.
I think this a great thing because, they also give a chance to up and coming designers to show what they can do and show their work to the rest of the country.
Sadly i didn’t go to this years Cape Town fashion week, but i did make it to the Caducci afterpaty. I’ll take it as a consolation prize,.
From what i heard, it was great, i hope to make it to next years event.
