Earth hour 2011

Earth hour happened on the 26th of March. This is an initiative to switch off lights and electrical aplliances for an hour at 20h30pm South African time.
It is a global event that is organised by the WWF (world widelife fund) to raise funds about the issue of climate change.
In Cape Town, there wasn’t much hype around Earth Hour in my opinion, as many people weren’t talking much about it.
I happened to be in Town at the time Earth Hour was just about to begin, and did also notice the lights of Table Mountain off. It also registered with me that it was taking place, but with the rest of the city, there wasn’t much.
I sadly didn’t participate in the initiative, and should be doing my bit to show that i care about the world i live in for the future generation.

We are what we do

We have all heard of the saying “you are what you eat” the same could be said with we are what we do.
The things that we do in our lives are a reflection of who we are and how people perceive us to be. For example, if you are a neat person, and present yourself in this light to other people, this is true.
Another example of being what you do is the line of work that you are in. I’ve noticed this at 90% of the time; the line of work that you are in will suit the personality that you have.   Like brand ambassadors for luxury brands for alcohol companies, tend to like the social scene and are usually at each party.
The things we do in our lives are always a reflection of who and what we are, we may not think that anyone is watching and taking note of the things that we do, but there are always people watching and looking at the image that we portray ourselves to the world.

We are afraid of the wrong things

We all have fears, and seem to let our fears cripple us. Whether the fears that we experience are fear of heights, thunder, the dark even, why do we let our fears take over our lives? The fact of the matter is that we let our fears take over our lives because of that one experience that sticks out in our mind.
It is easy to judge or to laugh at other people’s fears, but when it comes to our personal fears, we don’t find it funny when others laugh at our fears.
People should help each other and support each other with the fears that we have in our lives and we will find that the things that we are most   afraid of are the wrong things.

Addiction

I must admit, the only reason why this is my subject matter of choice is because i have been listening to a song by Kanye West, who happens to be one of my favourite artists, and he has a song called addiction.
In a line he asks, “whats your addiction? Is it money, is it girls, is it weed?” which got me thinking about some of the possible addictions that people may face are possibly the ones mentioned by Kanye West, but anything these days can become an addiction.
As i observe people over the few months, ive noticed that people are becoming more obsessed which leads to addiction with technology which we can see with the smart phones that coming up. People then subsequently become addicted to social networking.
I also fall into this trap especially with twitter. I find myself tweeting about anything and everything. So at this point my addiction is twitter.
The thing about addictions is to try and not let it control and take over your life, because when you do, other things in your life will fall behind

Fish falling from the sky

I must admit when having heard that this week’s topic is “fish falling from the sky” i had a hard time in trying to dig deep within myself and to try make sense of this topic.
As we went about life, we have all come across and heard of the phrase ‘when pigs fly’ which means or rather describes the impossible, but fish falling from the sky? Does it also suggest the impossible? Because realistically, fish falling from the sky is also an unlikely occurrence.
Whether or not we believe that fish will fall from the sky, we can take an important lesson from this phrase, which is that we should stop believing in the impossible, and rather use it to our advantage and make things possible for us.

The colour of the wind

When I think of the wind, I think of a cooling and soothing feeling that refreshes and replenishes a person from the heat.
Although, there are many types of winds, not all of them bring about these feelings. You have the soothing light wind that is meant to bring relief from the heat, then there is also the strong wind which we experience in Cape Town( thus Cape Town being named the Cape of Storms), and the other wind is a berg wind which not soothing at all but makes one even more warmer.
Each wind and the feeling that it gives should have a different colour. The soothing wind, id give it the colour blue, the strong winds I would say green, and the reason I say green in this case is because green is normally the colour of envy/jealousy, which it is, because it messes ladies hair do’s and blows people away while they are walking.
As for the berg wind... warmth and heat is associated with red, that I is the colour id give it.

I don’t think that there is a specific colour to the wind, it should be up to the person and how the wind feels to them, that they can give the wind a colour.

Procrastination

They say procrastination is the thief of time. I have to agree with this statement, as it hits home.
I have always been a relaxed person and do things at my own time, which usually makes me stress as soon as I realise that what I need to do is needed soon. The quality of work then also takes a knock when doing things at the last minute. It’s sad that most people including myself don’t plan their duties in order to cut down the workload.
This proves to be difficult in my situation as I am now trying to juggle with being back at school doing the btech programme, and doing all five subjects this year and working also.
With this, creating a balance with all that is going on in my life, writing a to do list is most effective, cutting out the things in my life that may consume my time and make me lose focus, such as my social life. The ‘okay’ thing about sacrificing my social life is that it will be for this year only.
Tackling the task that needs to be done, should be done or begun the moment the task has been given. The to do list also comes to play now and also breaking the task in stages.
It is easier said than done, but should be done in order to break the procrastination cycle.
